MATH

Students will engage in hands-on activities that develop, enrich, and expand basic math skills, including beginning math facts, measurement, calendars, patterns, money, graphing, telling time, and problem solving. Each class time will include whole group activities and instruction, as well as divided group activities and instruction according to grade and ability level.

Fun With Math
Grades 2-3

Spring Focus: Money and Time
This semester, students will explore money and time through engaging, hands-on, and higher-level thinking activities. We will build on their previous currency knowledge and cover coin and bill recognition, value, counting, adding and subtracting. We will also practice telling time to the hour, half hour, quarter hour and minute. The semester will culminate with a
class store where the students will be able to budget their class money and purchase their lunch.

Write on! Language Arts
Grades 2-3

This semester it’s all about insects! We will be focusing on expository writing. The students will learn about a new insect each week. They will practice reading and understanding informational text, organizing information, and writing expository sentences and paragraphs. The focus of our writing will be learning how to write to inform. Students will complete an informational narrative on an insect of their choice. They will also create their own new bug and write a detailed informational description to introduce it to the world.

Beginning Writer's Workshop
Grades 2-4

This exciting class will focus on teaching beginning writing skills and encouraging the love of writing. Students will participate in a variety of interactive, hands-on activities designed to increase their confidence, ability, and knowledge of the mechanics and art of writing. We will learn and practice everything from pencil position, handwriting, word placement, and spacing, to sentence structure, paragraphs, and punctuation. Join us and learn to LOVE writing!

Beginning Spanish
Grades K-3

Debra Heiden, a credentialed Spanish bi-lingual teacher, will teach students conversational phrases, such as “Good morning”, “My name is_____,” and “Thank you”. In addition, students will learn several words in Spanish pertaining to the following topics: school items, colors, numbers, days of the week, types of foods, and members of the family, as well as holiday-related vocabulary. Class lessons will include songs, art projects, and fun games and activities. Have your students learn Spanish the fun way!

Bible

Children will enjoy hearing true life missionary stories, stories from the Bible, memory verses, lively songs and, if time permits, we play a review game. What a joy it is to start the morning with children full of joy and eager to learn.
This is a non-secular class, taught from a Christian world view, involving prayer.

Little Wonders Dessert Emporium

Dessert Emporium is an exciting introduction into the world of desserts. Students will learn how their favorite desserts are made. They will practice coloring frosting, using a piping bag, basic piping techniques, cupcake decorating and much more. They will make a take-home dessert each week, along with an entry in their dessert cookbook that will go home at the end of the semester.

Hand-Sewing

Hand-sewing is a practical skill that will last a lifetime. This is an introductory level class that will teach young students the techniques necessary to master the basics of hand sewing. We will start with how to thread a needle, and the proper way to make a stitch. Our projects will progress in skill level as we move through the semester. There is nothing more fun that taking home a project once completed to show off your hard work. This class will move at an appropriate pace for the students as they gain confidence in their ability to sew.

Games around the World
Grades K-3

In this creative and interactive class, students are provided with the opportunity to learn interesting facts about a variety of countries, cultures, and traditions through playing games. During each class, students will hear a story about a different country that provides them with information about the culture and traditions. As part of each lesson, students will either do an art project that reflects the culture, or create and play a game that is enjoyed by the children of the country that we are “visiting” that day! Hand-Sewing
Grades 3-8

Hand sewing is a fun and creative activity that is also useful. In this class, students will learn this extremely valuable lifelong skill through a variety of engaging projects designed to teach traditional hand stitches. The project-based learning includes sewing a needle book, a pincushion, a button "tree", a felt mouse, and a drawstring bag. Additionally, throughout the class, students will be exposed to vocabulary unique to the world of sewing. Class fee includes a small personal sewing kit and fabric. 3rd grade students may join this class with teacher's approval.

LEGOS: STEM FUNdamentals with LEGO® Materials

Ukulele

Every student can be a ukulele player! This course serves as an introduction to the instrument and will provide students with instant success making music on the ukulele. Focus points will be strumming and rhythms, reading music, and improvising. This course is also a great way to kick start kids into learning musical instruments. The ukulele is a lot easier to learn how to play starting out than the piano or guitar. Students that start with ukulele will find that they can learn other instruments a lot faster as a result.
