Beginning Fall 2017, Foothill Learning Academy is excited to offer classes designed specifically for our youngest learners.  Each K-3 class, taught by caring and nurturing teachers, contains fun-filled movement activities and hands-on learning projects designed to foster creativity and learning.

                     

K-1 Math

Grades K-1  

EDH fee:  $160 per semester (1 voucher)

                                                            
Students will engage in hands-on activities that develop, enrich, and expand basic math skills, including beginning math facts, measurement, estimation, patterns, money, graphing, and problem solving. Each class time will include both whole group activities and instruction, as well as divided group activities and instruction according to grade and ability level.  ​

Spring Semester Focus: Maps and Measurement
Students will engage in hands-on activities that develop and expand basic math skills, including math facts, measurement, estimation, patterns, money, graphing, and problem solving. The semester, students will learn to measure and estimate using inches, feet, yards, and miles. We will also practice using a ruler and explore reading and following maps. Each class time will include both whole group activities and instruction, as well as divided group activities and instruction according to grade and ability level.  ​

Introduction to Conversational Spanish (El Dorado Hills)
Grades  K-3

In this program, children will learn to develop the foundation of vocabulary and practical phrases for conversational Spanish. This dynamic class will keep kids active and engaged while they explore stations which highlight: crafts, games, role-playing, songs, and special worksheets to take home and practice Spanish. Lots of conversation, literacy and writing in Spanish will be encouraged during this class.

STEM : Little Wonders Student Engineering

Having an understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math prepares children to be problem solvers, collaborators, creators, and investigators, all while being mindful of the resources available to them. There is no denying that STEM-based learning provides students a head start to success in the rapidly changing 21st century. In this hands-on class, we will take on current, real life problems, and find solutions based on our investigations.

​Da Vinci's World: STEM/Art hybrid

Leonardo da Vinci was one of the world’s most famous artists and one of the most remarkable inventors. In this hybrid STEM and Art class, students are introduced to the life, world, and incredible mind of Leonardo da Vinci through hands-on building projects that explore his art and invention.

Students will explore a variety of media and art techniques in this exciting hands on class.  Students will have the opportunity to foster their creative skills by experimenting with new techniques to communicate thoughts and feelings in their artwork.  This course will allow students to develop skills in a range of media, including pencil drawing, painting, pastels, and more!  Art history will be incorporated into many lessons providing the opportunity for students to examine the artistic contributions of famous artists and gather inspiration from art history in their own projects.  Class fee includes all supplies.   Attention South Sutter Students:  Janelle cannot accept South Sutter vouchers since she is a South Sutter employee.  South Sutter students will need to private pay for this class.

Sewing Around the World
Grades K-6    
                                                                                                                         

Placerville fee: $170 per semester (1 voucher)  


​This creative class is for both boys and girls who are interested in sewing and want to learn more about traditional dress in other parts of the world. Students will hand sew their own doll which will “travel around the world" with them. The class will “visit" all seven continents. At each new destination, students will create a culturally traditional outfit for their doll. By the end of our twelve week adventure, all students will have finished hand sewing two dolls and six different outfits. Each student will learn to embroider a face, sew on hair, and hand stitch clothing for their choice of a boy or girl doll.  All materials are included.

STEM FUNdamentals with LEGO® Materials

Fall Session: Power on your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as Snowmobiles, Towers, Catapults, and Battletracks! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment.  This class is 1 hour 10 minutes long.

Hand Sewing Basics Level 1
Grades 3-8      
                                         

EDH fee: $160 per semester (1 voucher)      

                     
Hand sewing is the best way to mend and do everyday repairs. In this class, students will learn this extremely valuable lifelong skill through a variety of fun and engaging projects designed to teach traditional hand stitches. The project-based learning includes sewing a needle book, a pincushion, a button "tree", a felt mouse, and a drawstring bag. Additionally, throughout the class, students will be exposed to vocabulary unique to the world of sewing.  Class fee includes a small personal sewing kit and fabric.  If your child would like to pick out their own fabric, I can supply measurements for you to purchase it on your own.
