Fun With Math

Spring Focus: Adding and Subtracting Fractions
We will continue our adventure in fractions this semester, moving on to adding and subtracting like fractions. Using a hands-on approach, students will learn math that they will be able to apply in real-life experiences. Making math relatable to their needs helps to keep children engaged. Lessons will be standards-based with a focus on developing, enriching, and expanding their knowledge of math facts, fractions, adding, subtracting, and critical thinking.

Phonics

This class is designed to help students learn to read, gain confidence in their phonics abilities, and develop a love of reading. The goal of phonics is to enable beginning readers to decode new written words by sounding them out, or, in phonics terms, blending the sound-spelling patterns. Writing Basics

FINE ARTS AND ENRICHMENT CLASSES
Art Exploration
Grades K-3

Students will explore a variety of media and art techniques in this exciting hands on class. Students will have the opportunity to foster their creative skills by experimenting with new techniques to communicate thoughts and feelings in their artwork. This course will allow students to develop skills in a range of media, including pencil drawing, painting, pastels, and more! Art history will be incorporated into many lessons providing the opportunity for students to examine the artistic contributions of famous artists and gather inspiration from art history in their own projects. Class fee includes all supplies. Attention South Sutter Students: Janelle cannot accept South Sutter vouchers since she is a South Sutter employee. All About Instruments
Grades K-3

This fun and interactive class will go over the basics of sound waves and how our ears are perfectly designed to capture the many sounds that instruments make. We will look at several different instruments and their unique acoustic characteristics. We will also create a few instruments to play ourselves. This is a fun, hands-on way to introduce your young child to the various instruments in the orchestra.

Hand Sewing (Placerville)

Have fun and learn to sew by hand! Sewing helps improve fine motor skills and focus. At the same time, students are able to create fun projects to take home. Students will learn basic hand stitches, how to thread a needle, cutting fabric, tying knots, how to sew on buttons and snaps, and adding embellishments like ribbon and lace. We will start with the most basic of skills, and advance step-by-step throughout the semester with fun and creative sewing projects like: felt pencil cases, needle wallets, small pillows, stuffed creatures, coasters, small totes, etc.

Choir

Singing should be fun!! We’ll focus on blending our voices to work as a team while studying vocal techniques, correct breathing to strengthen your instrument, note reading and rhythm exercises. NO experience is necessary, just come and be prepared to open your mouth and SING! The more the merrier!

Beginning Drama

Hand Sewing: Level 2 (Cameron Park)

Hand sewing is a fun and creative activity that is also useful. In this class, students will learn this extremely valuable lifelong skill through a variety of engaging projects designed to teach traditional hand stitches. The project-based learning includes sewing a needle book, a pincushion, a button "tree", a felt mouse, and a drawstring bag. Additionally, throughout the class, students will be exposed to vocabulary unique to the world of sewing. Class fee includes a small personal sewing kit and fabric. 3rd grade students may join this class with teacher's approval.

Motor Skills Development
Grades K-3

Motor skills play a huge role in day-to-day life. They go far beyond being able to kick a ball or use a longer grasp. Strengthening the muscle groups necessary to master both fine and gross motor skills will allow students to become more independent. We will focus on skills such as letter printing, cutting and pasting, shoe tying, tracing, throwing and catching a ball, jumping and hopping on one foot, as well as hand-eye coordination. Ensuring students have strong motor skills now will set them up for continued success.

Movin' and Goovin'

Bible Basics: Missionary Stories

Missionaries can teach us so much about God’s sovereignty, faithfulness, and mercy. Students will hear stories about 12 missionaries serving 8 countries. Students will learn brief facts for each country and discuss how each missionary was uniquely prepared to serve in those countries. Students will also learn and discuss 12 verses that teach godly character displayed in each missionary. Let these heroes of the faith be strong role models for your students. This is a non-secular class, taught from a Christian world view, involving prayer.
