Class: STEM Challenge with LEGO® Materials (Lego Engineering)
Vendor for Horizon, Visions, South Sutter, CORE, Inspire, and American River
Contact: Lynda Weiss, Sacramento Area Manager
Play-Well TEKnologies was founded by Tim Bowen in 1997. He was introduced the LEGO® building system in 1996. Recognizing it to be both a popular play medium and a tremendous learning medium, Tim began to develop projects which drew on his professional experience and combined the elements of fun, challenge, and learning. He began operating a summer camp program in 1997, followed by after-school enrichment classes in 1998. With steady growth of the company, project development is now undertaken by a staff of instructors bent on constantly improving the programs.
Sacramento Area Manager Lynda Weiss:
Mrs. Weiss started with Play-Well TEKnologies in 2003 as an Instructor and is now the Sacramento area manager. She very much enjoys sharing her love of engineering and science with children. In addition to herself, there are three other instructors in the Sacramento area who each bring a unique perspective to their classes.
Lynda has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering. She has also volunteered in Society of Women Engineers programs that mentor high school girls interested in engineering. When taking a break from teaching, or building with Lego, she can be found building robots, or exploring nature with my camera.
