2-3 ELA:  "Owl-tastic" Sentences to Stories

Grades 2-3

This class will teach students how to write and combine excellent sentences leading to interesting paragraphs and stories. Students will participate in a variety of language arts activities designed to foster creative thinking, oral expression, and growth in basic reading, writing, and spelling skills all while learning about owls. Our focus will be on sentence structure, expanding boring sentences, adding detail to our writing, combining sentences with fluency and variety, and story writing. Each class time will include both whole group activities and instruction, as well as divided group activities and instruction according to grade and ability level.

Cursive and Spelling

Grades 2-3

Cursive, and spelling, and vocabulary Oh my! Learning to write cursive along with being able to read it is becoming a lost art. Cursive writing can get all those brain waves to wire in different ways and help with finger dexterity. Students will develop a love of writing creatively all while increasing their vocabulary and spelling skills.

Fun With Phonetics

Grades K-3

This class is presented with a Montessori-inspired approach.  Children will be given a basic lesson each week using music, art and games to help connect phonics with audio, visual and tactile concepts.  They will also have access to self-guided activities that promote problem solving for each phonic sound.

Once Upon A Snack Time

Childrens’ literature is so fun but what makes it even better is taking time to bake and/or cook the foods in our favorite stories.  Each week we’ll read a new book and learn to make its corresponding food or dessert such as, ‘Stone Soup’,

Fun with Math

Using our senses we will explore the world of science. This fall students will learn about the needs of plants, parts of a plant, and the plant life cycle. We will spend time examining, measuring, and dissecting a pumpkin. Students will also learn about our solar system. We will have fun new adventures learning about our planets, the sun, the moon, moon phases, stars, and the important job of an astronaut. Classes will be taught with a hands-on approach consisting of different activities that illustrate the lesson.

2-3 Science

From life science to Earth science we'll be doing all types of experiments about our world around us. Leaning the how's and why's and all the other questions in-between. Top Secret Forensics

This is a fun and simplified ‘Who-Done-It’ class. Students will be presented with age-appropriate ‘crimes’ and will learn to follow the clues to determine who the suspects and guilty characters are.  They will get to use basic chemistry, decoding, matching, and overall observation skills.

Zoomin' Into Zoology

SOCIAL SCIENCE

Adventures Around the World

Grades K-3

Do you want your children to learn social studies in a new and exciting way by having the experience of “visiting” other countries and learning about their diverse and colorful cultures? This semester we will be “visiting” the following fascinating locations:
South Africa, China, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, Ecuador (Including the Galapagos Islands!) Greece, and Hawaii. Each student will receive their own passport in which to write and draw about each place that we “visit”. In addition, students in my class will be watching videos, hearing folklore stories, listening to music from each different country, doing art projects, playing games, and participating in activities that help to foster kindness, sharing, and a sense of community in our world. One of the goals of social studies classes is to help children to learn how to become citizens of the world. This class will teach your children how to do that in a fun and relatable way. Lessons will include the following fun activities: a Chinese New Year parade, a Maori painting project, a treasure hunt for a tricky leprechaun, a “Loch Ness Monster art project, playing the “turtle game” in honor of our visit to the Galapagos Islands, making leis, playing a traditional Hawaiian checkers game, and much, much more! Pioneer Living

Grades K-3

There are so many wonderful and interesting people who helped to discover

and establish settlements in our country.  To truly appreciate their stories we

will learn about their adventures and what life was like for them.  We will not only read fun anecdotes but reenact some of those ways of living ourselves.  Students will learn what it was like to be in a classroom and practice writing their name on a slate just like Laura Ingalls, to plant appleseeds like Johnny, pan for gold like the minors, churn butter, make wooden toys, learn about the different rules and chores children their own age had to follow like darning socks and much more.

ART

Art Exploration

Grades K-3

Come explore the fun of creating through a wide array of art materials!  In this art class, students will have the opportunity to paint in watercolors & acrylic, learn to draw with ink & chalk pastels as well as create 3D sculptures from everyday objects.  Each project will include basic instruction on how to use the featured art material, an introduction to an artist who used it in their work and various samples of what they created.  It will be like taking a trip to our very own museum and artist gallery each week. Rain or Shine Art Class: Explore Art Through Weather

Grades K-3

$205 per semester

Join us in exploring art through drawing and painting based on your own observations, science, and famous paintings about weather.  Artworks about rain, snow, sun, lightning, wind, etc., will be created as various media including watercolor, marker, and pastels are explored. Discovery and finding joy in the process of creating is the focus of this class specifically tailored to this age group.  The 12 artwork pieces created in this class could make for a beautiful 2023 calendar you could create for your family and extended family!  All supplies included.

Yes! Ukuleles are like baby guitars and are a perfect, affordable fit for small hands and are an excellent

and fun way to explore music fundamentals. Ukuleles are portable and easy to play and can be a natural

seq-way to other instruments, especially acoustic or electric guitar.

 

Beginning Ukulele class participants can expect to achieve a working understanding of the ukulele’s

parts and their functions; play familiar melodies using basic music notation and strum and sing along

with songs using chord and rhythm charts. PLEASE NOTE: Students are expected to bring their own ukuleles to class each week.

Beginning Hand Sewing

Grades K-3

Have fun and learn to sew by hand!  Sewing helps improve fine motor skills and focus. At the same time, students are able to create fun projects to take home.  Students will learn basic hand stitches, how to thread a needle, cutting fabric, tying knots, how to sew on buttons and snaps, and adding embellishments like ribbon and lace. We will start with the most basic of skills, and advance step-by-step throughout the semester with fun and creative sewing projects.

Block Coding

Grades 2-4

Students are introduced to coding through educational games. Minimal typing required. All learning is self-paced, guided by the following coding games: https://www.mrcodeswildride.com/games

Students go through the games at their own pace with individualized instructor guidance. Class sizes are typically 5-6 students, with a maximum of 10 students, so every student receives adequate individualized help from the instructor. Laptops provided for in-class use.

LEGO Engineering

Does hands-on building and creating sound like fun?  Then come join us and learn STEM concepts through building fun projects. We will use LEGO® parts and motors, and sometimes supplement them with common items such as string, paper, crayons, etc. Explore your creative boundaries, and connect your projects to real-world physics and engineering concepts, while guided by an experienced instructor. ​We do different projects each semester!

Kids on Stage

Grades K-3

This class will introduce the basics of drama and creative expression through movement, verbalization, and role-playing.  Students will learn stage presence, vocal projection and diction using simplified and age-appropriate memorization.  This class is great for building tools and techniques for children who have shy tendencies as well as helping gregarious children with being more observant of others around them. At the end of the semester the children will perform a group play with an added goal of a solo performance from each student.
