Novel Study:Where the Red Fern Grows/The Secret Garden
Grades 5-8
$200 per semester (includes the cost of both novels)
This interactive class is completely literature-based and fun! We read, discuss, and analyze super engaging, age-level appropriate novels. Each week the students will read and annotate focusing on various aspects of the novel including mood, theme, characters, conflict, literary devices, and personal connections. There is optional homework students can complete for a grade to prepare them for discussion, increase their critical thinking skills, and satisfy state curriculum requirements. This class is perfect not only for students who love to read, but for students who are resistant readers as well. All books will be provided and are included in the class tuition. math class that uses games and puzzles to teach mathematical concepts to homeschool students. Through
a variety of engaging and entertaining games, students will learn and practice important math skills such as
problem-solving, logical reasoning, strategic thinking, and numerical fluency.

Math Escape Rooms - The Great Escape!
Grades: 4-6, 4-8

We have brand new escape rooms for the Fall ‘24 semester! This is a unique Math class that combines the excitement of escape rooms with the practical application of math skills. Students will work together in groups to solve math puzzles and problems, leading them to clues that will help them escape the room before time runs out.
Each escape room will be themed around a different mathematical concept, such as geometry, algebra, or probability. Students will apply their knowledge of these concepts to decipher clues, solve equations, and unlock the next steps in their escape. They will also develop critical thinking skills as they work collaboratively to solve complex problems under pressure. Throughout the class, students will gain a deeper understanding of how math is used in real-world scenarios and develop their problem-solving skills. The class is designed for students who have a good foundation in basic math skills and are looking for a fun and challenging way to apply them.
By the end of the course, students will have completed several escape rooms, developed their math skills, and gained confidence in their ability to solve complex problems.

Math Through Art: Fall Semester

Geometry Architect: Fall Semester

Astronomy

Students will explore the wonders of the universe through model building and activities. Topics include the Sun, the planets, the solar system's size, comets, asteroids, and meteoroids, low-mass and high-mass star life cycles, black holes, nebulae, and craters. Students will build models of asteroids and comets, "travel" to each planet to observe interesting phenomena, create a nebula in a bottle and a high-mass/low-mass star life cycle mobile, view the Sun using special solar glasses, and more.

Crime Scene Investigation Lab (CSI Lab)

Roller Coaster STEM Challenge

From Soil to Science: Gardening as a Window to Life Sciences

This class is a chance to cultivate a deeper understanding of the science behind gardening. Connecting life science principles with everyday gardening activities will inspire a lifelong passion for science, nature, and environmental care.
Students will embark on an educational journey that combines the practical aspects of gardening with the foundational principles of life science. Through hands-on projects, experiments, and interactive lessons, students will gain valuable knowledge and skills that emphasize the importance of learning life science in a practical way.

SOCIAL SCIENCE AND HISTORY
History: Middle Ages
4-6, 4-8, 6-8 grade

Through hands-on project based learning, students study the social, cultural, and technological changes that occurred in Europe, Africa, and Asia in the years A.D. 500-1789. After reviewing the ancient world and the ways in which archaeologists and historians uncover the past, students study the history and geography of great civilizations that were developing concurrently throughout the world during medieval and early modern times. They learn to think critically and work collaboratively through hands-on projects. Finally, students assess the political forces let loose by the Enlightenment, particularly the rise of democratic ideas, and they learn about the continuing influence of these ideas in the world today. History Comes Alive: Night at the Museum

In this course, students will use the Night at the Museum (PG) movies as the backdrop to explore geography, historical figures, and literary themes. In the movies, historical figures on display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC magically come to life at night! In class, after watching video clips from the movie, students will learn about the various key characters in the movie that “come to life” in the film. Additionally, we will examine themes within the movie such as collaboration, dedication, and hope. Each week the students will complete a small hands-on project based on the topic/character studied. At the end of the course, the students will watch the movie in its entirety, focusing on discerning fact from fiction. (Yearlong class, with each semester focusing on a different movie. US Government: The Election Process

Students will explore the election and voting process in the United States. Activities will be used to familiarize students with the terminology, practices, and traditions of American Elections. Particular attention will be paid to what the Constitution says about elections and voting. Additionally, various types of elections and the history of political parties will be explored. US Government: Principals of American Democracy

This course focuses on the fundamental principles and moral values of American democracy as expressed in the US Constitution and the foundational documents of freedom. Students will study the documents and ideas that are the basis of the American experience, beginning with the Magna Carta & Mayflower Compact. Art Exploration: Underwater Worlds & Safari Adventures

Dive into creating artworks of aquatic animals, plants, and an imaginary scene with yourself as the snorkeler! Continuing your adventure, head into the savanna and draw and paint African wildlife - lions, tigers, giraffes, leopards - and scenery. A wide variety of media - graphite, watercolor, pastels, etc. - will be explored as fine art techniques for drawing and painting are taught through these fun themes. Become a part of a musical theater production! Each child will have a chance to participate as we rehearse and produce a Broadway Musical Kids production. Every week children learn their parts. We practice stage presence, singing, and dancing. Simple costumes and props will be necessary. Some provided and some sourced from participants. Vocal Performance

There is no need for a fancy camera to take a great picture! Learn the art of composition. Figure out how to use lighting to create mood. Understand the value of perspective and telling a story with an image. These things will make even a camera phone a tool for art. We will explore the functions of more advanced equipment, point and shoot pocket cameras, and how to make your
camera phone do what you want it to! Basic digital editing will be covered during the last three weeks of class.

Mock Trial

Mock trials have proven to be an effective learning tool for students of all grade levels. It helps them understand the law, practice critical thinking, and gain greater confidence with public speaking by assuming the roles of attorneys and witnesses in a fictional criminal or civil trial. Students experience first-hand the difficulties that judges, lawyers and juries face in determining which facts are relevant and what legal arguments are effective. Speak Up! Speech and Debate

Students explore concepts in public speaking, critical thinking, argument and debate. This course covers the different styles of speeches, rhetorical strategies and the art of debate. A major focus of the class will be the elements of rhetoric as it pertains to information, persuasion and debate. The students will give several speeches to classmates. Video Game Masters: Unlocking Critical Thinking

Welcome to Video Game Masters, a dynamic homeschool class where Nintendo Switch consoles and
E-rated games become tools for enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
In this class, students will have the opportunity to dive into engaging critical thinking games such as: Big Brain Academy, Nintendo Switch Sports, Super Mario Maker 2, Snipperclips, Moving Out, Super Mario Party, Tricky Towers and Minecraft.
Each class begins with a lively lecture, introducing key concepts and vocabulary, followed by hands-on gameplay to apply and reinforce these ideas in a fun, interactive setting. While a fondness for video games is recommended, it’s not mandatory; the focus is to cultivate analytical minds and strategic thinking! This course is perfect for students seeking an innovative approach to boost their cognitive skills through the exciting world of video games.
