Language Arts

Students will participate in a variety of language arts activities designed to foster creative thinking, oral expression, and growth in reading, writing, and sight word recognition. This semester, we will be incorporating The Mitten into our curriculum and will be focusing on short vowel sounds. Each week, I select students for show and tell — a wonderful opportunity for classmates to get to know one another and build confidence sharing and asking questions. My curriculum changes each semester, allowing students to take this class for up to two years without repetition.

Phonics Fun & Word Games

Learning to read has never been more exciting! This playful and interactive class helps young readers strengthen their phonics and literacy skills through engaging games, movement activities, and hands-on word challenges. Students will build confidence in reading, spelling, and word recognition while having fun with rhyming, storytelling, and creative language play. Perfect for

Literature and Writing Through Alliteration

Grades 2-3

Learning through books is one of the best ways to help kids understand the world around us including the English language. Each week will be a different letter as the topic of our conversations. We will read books that encompass the letter noted, do a writing activity that involves the English concept of the week, practice spelling elements within words, plus learn new words through vocabulary along the way of this letter journey. This is a great class for practice in reading and writing concepts, no pressure, just fun and learning together.

Mightily Math Masters

Young minds thrive on active learning.  This spring students will learn all about weather as we create our Weather Book Project. It will include the water cycle, clouds, states of matter, and recording and graphing of the temperature. We will also be exploring our 5 senses, including a lesson on braille with a real braille machine. Classes will be taught with a hands-on approach consisting of different activities and experiments that illustrate the lesson.

Sciene: Zoomin' Through Zoology

S.T.E.M. Curious Creations

S.T.E.M. Fairy Tale Engineers

In this magical blend of storytelling and STEM, students will bring classic fairy tales to life through hands-on engineering challenges. From building a sturdy bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff to designing a house that can withstand the Big Bad Wolf's huff and puff, kids will use creativity, problem-solving, and engineering skills to rethink and reimagine beloved stories. History: Pioneer Living

There are so many wonderful and interesting people who helped to discover and establish settlements in our country.  To truly appreciate their stories we will learn about their adventures and what life was like for them.  We will not only read fun anecdotes but reenact some of those ways of living ourselves.  Students will learn what it was like to be in a classroom and practice writing their name on a slate just like Laura Ingalls, to plant appleseeds like Johnny, pan for gold like the minors, churn butter, make wooden toys, learn about the different rules and chores children their own age had to follow like darning socks and much more.

Time Travelers: Exploring History Through Timelines

We will travel through History with a Read-a-Loud “living picture book” that I will read. We'll discuss the person(s) and events in the book, and look behind and ahead in the Timeline of History. We will make visual, ongoing Timeline pictures each week with stand out quotes and drawings. This Spring will be studying 1787- 1829 Early American History: The Writing of the Constitution, the War of 1812, Erie Canal, Gold Rush, Pony Express, Civil War and SO much more!

Art Exploration

New lessons for spring semester!  Explore a wide variety of fun subjects to draw and paint while learning the fundamentals of fine art techniques.  Shading, texture, line, paint handling, and color mixing will be taught through a variety of subjects including animals, flowers, landscapes, portraits, and more. The artwork will be created using a wide variety of media including graphite, watercolor, tempera, acrylic, and pastels. Holiday themed art lessons will also be part of this semester-long course.  A new art project will be created every week or two.

Hands on Art: Famous Artists

Puppet Pals: Theater and Storytelling

Jr. Musical Theater

Grades K-3

Become a part of a musical theater production! Each child will have a chance to participate as we rehearse and produce the Broadway Musical: Shrek Jr. Every week students learn their part in our big group numbers. Jr. Theater performers are essential to our ensemble cast. We practice stage presence, singing, and dancing. Costumes and props will be necessary. Most are

provided. Students will be required to provide base costume pieces (like a certain colored t-shirt, pants). We perform our 1 hour musical twice on an assigned performance day outside of class meeting times to a live audience!

 

Note: additional rehearsals are required for this class close to our performance date. A rehearsal schedule will be sent out one month before we begin class.

Bible: Good News Club

Hand Sewing: Building Fine Motor Skills

Grades 1-2, 2-3

Have fun learning to sew by hand!  Sewing helps improve fine motor skills and focus. Students are able to follow pre-made patterns and projects they will take home.  Students will learn basic hand stitches, how to thread a needle, cutting fabric, tying knots, how to sew on buttons and snaps, and adding embellishments like ribbon and lace. We will start with the most basic of skills, and advance step-by-step throughout the semester with fun and creative sewing projects. No previous knowledge needed.

Computer Basics and Typing

Grades 3-8

Students learn basic computer skills like using a mouse, using a web browser, understanding the file system, knowing hotkeys, and word processing with Google Docs. Students also learn touch typing at their own pace through online lessons, with individualized instructor guidance. An outline of the class can be found on our website:

Most of the semester will be mastering typing skills, which is self-paced, so students can work at their grade level with help from the instructor and teaching assistants.

The class will have about a 6-to-1 student-instructor ratio to ensure that all students can get individualized help and guidance. Laptops provided for in-class use.

LEGO Engineering

Does hands-on building and creating sound like fun? Then come join us and learn STEM concepts through building fun projects, using LEGO® parts and motors. Explore your creative boundaries and connect your projects to real-world physics and engineering concepts, while guided by an experienced instructor. ​Returning students are welcome – we do different projects each semester. 

 

All materials are provided. Students do not keep their creations but are welcome to bring cameras to class to photograph their projects.

Little Kid's Kitchen
Grades K-3

​Welcome to Little Kids Kitchen! 

Get ready for a magical cooking adventure. In this course students will be introduced to the kitchen and all the fun that they can have in it, while learning safety and fun recipes. This semester we will continue our journey through Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure! 

Students will learn and help create magical recipes that we will then enjoy together in class. We’ll learn how to cook some of the magical recipes from famous Disney restaurants like Jolly Holiday, Red Rose Taverne, Cafe Orleans and more! 

Put on your chef hats and join us for a magical time in Little Kids Kitchen. We can’t wait to cook, eat, and have fun with you! Be our guest and let’s make some Disney magic! Please be aware that because of the nature of how this class is set up this class can not be tailored for households with food allergies and dietary restrictions
